SOLIDARITES INTERNATIONAL (SI) is an international humanitarian aid association which, since more than 40 years, has been providing assistance to populations affected by armed conflicts and natural disasters by meeting their basic needs for food, water and shelter. Particularly committed to the fight against diseases linked to unsafe water, the leading cause of death in the world, SI’s interventions provide expertise in the field of access to drinking water, sanitation and hygiene promotion, but also in the essential area of food security and livelihoods. Present in 26 countries, the SI teams – 3200 people in total, made up of expatriates, national staff, permanent staff at HQ, and a few volunteers – intervene with professionalism and commitment while respecting cultural norms.
La mission
Solidarites International has been present in Nigeria for 8 years – since 2016 in Northeast Nigeria and 2020 in the Northwest.
SI’s coordination office is in Maiduguri (prospects of relocation to Abuja in 2025), together with NE regional base. Besides, SI has a liaison office in Abuja and a second regional base for the NW programs in Gusau town (Zamfara State), with a sub office in Anka.
In the Northeast, SI operates in 3 LGAs of Borno state (Monguno, Ngala and Konduga) and in Maiduguri MMC and Jere. SI has also intervened in other LGAs including Dikwa, Gwoza and Bama in the recent past. In the Northwest, SI intervenes in 5 LGAs of Zamfara: Gusau, Anka, Talata Mafara, Zurmi and Kaura Namoda. During 2024, SI has reached approximately 220,000 beneficiaries in Northeast and Northwest.

General objectives:
The Country Director is Solidarités International’s ofÏcial representative in the country. He is in charge of the overall management of the mission, which includes security overview, strategic positionnning, operations monitoring, program quality and resources management
Issues and specific challenges:
Security overview to supervise operations in hard to reach areas
Access Strategy in Hard to Reach areas (NW & NE)
Strategic positionning in a global trend of funding decrease
Transition to absorb with new staff dynamic
Priorities for the 2/3 first months :
Security & Access, Roll-out of SI 2025 Country Programming, Context monitoring and strategic adaptation, Partnership strategy & External Representation, Adaptation of SI operations and sizing
Security constraints
No walk policy everywhere in the country / Security situation calm in Abuja, level 3 in Maiduguri, level 4 in sub-bases
Life conditions
Several possibility of entertainement and outings in Abuja, limited but existing in Maiduguri, inexisting in sub-bases / Collective Guest House in Maiduguri / Appartment of CD also used for expats transit in Abuja (possibility to walk in the residence, with gym and swimming pool)
Other:
Based in Abuja, with periodic presence in Maiduguri (where the coordination is), and occasional field visits
A salaried position
According to experience from 3740 euros gross per month (EUR 3400 base salary, gross / month + 10% annual leave allowance paid monthly) + a monthly Per Diem of USD 600.
SI covers accommodation costs and travel expenses between the expatriate’s country of origin and the place of assignment.
Breaks
During the assignment, a system of alternation between work and time off is implemented at the rate of 7 working days every 3 months. For a one-year assignment, the expatriate will have a 7 working days break at 3, 6 and 9 months (with USD 850 allocated by SI). In addition to these, SI adds 1 additional rest day per month of work, i.e. 12 additional days off for a one-year contract.
Insurance package
Expatriates benefit from an insurance package which covers all healthcare expenses (including medical and surgical expenses, dental care and ophthalmological expenses, repatriation) and a welfare system, including war risks. Essential vaccination and antimalarial treatment costs are refunded.
Living conditions
Several possibility of entertainement and outings in Abuja, limited but existing in Maiduguri, inexisting in sub-bases / Collective house in Maiduguri / Appartment of CD also used for expats transit in Abuja (possibility to walk in the residence, with gym and swimming pool)
Education:
Bachelor or masters in a related degree: Logistics, Transport, Warehousing, IT, Supply Chain, Management
Experience:
EXPERIMENT IN THE HUMANITARIAN SECTOR: +5 years
EXPERIMENT ON SIMILAR POSITIONS: 3-4 years
Technical skills:
1 Strategic thinking.
2 Ability to communicate diligently internally and externally.
3 Knowledge of general operational and support frame of INGOs.
4 Strong team management capacities.
