The Assistant Technical Officer for Shelter and NFIs will support the implementation of shelter and non-food item (NFI) programs in Dikwa LGA. This role involves assisting in the planning, coordination, and monitoring of shelter and NFI activities to ensure they meet the needs of displaced populations and host communities.

Key Responsibilities:

Technical Support:

  • Assist in conducting needs assessments for shelter and NFIs.
  • Support the development and implementation of shelter and NFI strategies.
  • Provide technical guidance on shelter construction and NFI distribution.

Project Implementation:

  • Oversee day-to-day operations of shelter and NFI projects.
  • Ensure compliance with established standards and procedures.
  • Monitor project progress and report on key performance indicators.

Coordination and Collaboration:

  • Liaise with local authorities, NGOs, and other stakeholders.
  • Participate in coordination meetings and represent the organization in relevant forums.
  • Maintain strong communication with field teams and partners.

Capacity Building:

  • Train and mentor local staff and volunteers.
  • Promote best practices in shelter and NFI management.
  • Support the development of training materials and workshops.

Reporting and Documentation:

  • Prepare regular reports on project activities and outcomes.
  • Document lessons learned and best practices.
  • Ensure accurate and timely data collection and analysis.

Person Specification:

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, Architecture, or a related field.
  • Relevant certifications in humanitarian shelter and NFI management are an advantage.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 1-3 years of experience in shelter and NFI programs, preferably in a humanitarian context.
  • Experience working in conflict-affected areas is highly desirable.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Strong technical knowledge of shelter construction and NFI distribution.
  • Excellent project management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multicultural and multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and project management software.
  • Fluency in English; knowledge of local languages is an asset.
