Job Title: Gender and Disability Inclusion Specialist
Location: Zamfara
The Opportunity
- The Gender Equality and Inclusion Specialist is responsible for developing technical guidance, checklists and tools on gender equality and inclusion for all programs, thematic and sectoral areas that support project design, implementation, monitoring, evaluation and reporting.
- He/She are responsible for the implementation and monitoring of the Gender Transformative Protocol and Conduct regular Gender equality and Inclusion reviews to inform the management on areas of progress, challenges, opportunities and recommendations.
- He/She Support staffs to develop gender transformative projects and programs in line with GPON Country strategy, Facilitate development of gender transformative approaches and program models applicable to the context of Nigeria and Promote feminist leadership and advice management in introducing gender sensitive HR systems and work place culture. He/She is responsible for development and implementation of capacity building, training, coaching, learning plan on gender equality, inclusion and gender transformation for all GPON staff.
- He/She responsible Review of TORs for various project activities while ensuring that such activities aligned with the overall project strategy, as well as demonstrate value for money (the focus should not be about increasing burn rate, but rather, focused on meeting the overall project goals, in alignment with our program objective achievements and provide advice on programmatic gaps as well as Resource Mobilization strategies or funding opportunities to achieve the goal.
- He/She is responsible proactively identify relevant networks, forums, and platforms on gender equality and represent GPON at national, regional and global level and Strengthen GPON’s representation in various forums and platforms.
About You
- As a Gender Equality and Inclusion Specialist, you should have a post graduate degree in Social Sciences development study or related field, a professional qualification and membership in related associations and societies.
- He/She must have Experience in Gender Equality and inclusion, diversity programming with orientation to various sectoral programs (Education, Livelihoods, protection etc..). and Clear exposure to Emergency contexts and emergency response programs.
- He/She must have demonstrated relevant progressive experience in similar posts with International / national NGO and deeper understanding and technical knowledge of the various global discussions and standards on Gender equality and Inclusion, Human rights and Child Rights frameworks and trends.
Responsibilities
- The post holder leads program design, planning and implementation to ensure overall interventions are of high quality gender transformative and inclusive of children and youth with disabilitiesÂ
- Analyse and assess gender related relevant political, social and economic trends that contribute to enhancement or detraction of girls’ rights to sexual reproductive health and rights
- Conduct regular supervision and monitoring visits to project filed sites to ensure gender transformative approach is mainstreamed in all project activities;
- Lead and coordinate the development and/or adapting gender transformative and inclusion training materials and tools as necessary.
- Work closely with the Protection Specialist to ensure that gender transformative approaches are integrated throughout all activities and interventions
- Work in partnership MEAL team in the development of Monitoring plan in line with SCI-ECW project indicators
- Ensure that GPON policies for Safeguarding children and young people and Gender Equality and Inclusion (GEI) are fully embedded in accordance with the principles and requirements of the policy including relevant Implementation Standards and Guidelines as applicable to their area of responsibility.
- Work closely with Project manager and coordinators to support the design, management and implementation of the planned activities
- Provide gender technical support and the expertise required to implement the programme and to obtain the expected results
- Ensure synergy building between the different components of the programme;
In consultation with the partners, prepare annual work plans, budgets and progress reports to ensure the achievement of results; - Provide gender and inclusion related technical support to staff and partners for programme implementation, including identification and fulfilment of capacity building requirements.
- Regularly capture gender related emerging opportunities in the country and ensure the adjustment of the programme to respond to these opportunities
- Prepare periodic progress reports in collaboration with partners focusing on results, output and outcomes that add into the overall program report underlining the main achievements and the synergies between the different components of the programme.
- Perform other project related duties as assigned by the Project Director

- The duties and responsibilities as set out above are not exhaustive and the role holder may be required to carry out additional duties within the reasonableness of their level of skills and experience
Technical Expertise, Skills and Knowledge
- First Degree or equivalent in Social Science, Development Studies, Gender & Development or equivalent combination of relevant training and experience. Advanced degree will be an added advantage
- At least 5 years-experience implementing on issues of gender and inclusion, including adolescent sexual reproductive health across either development, humanitarian or refugee setting.
- Proven experience in supporting the designing, implementing, and evaluating disability-inclusive and gender-transformative social and behaviour change communication interventions.
- Experience in supporting the implementation of disability-inclusive and gender-transformative approaches in any context.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team setting with minimal supervision.
- Specific knowledge of international development, disability inclusion and gender equality issues; experience engaging children and other community members on gender equality issues desirable.
- Demonstrable understanding of applying the principles of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in project cycle management.
- Excellent planning and organizational skills with the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced work environment.

- Salary and conditions: NGN 900,000 – NGN1,100,000. The income will be subject to statutory deductions as per applicable Nigerian laws. The employee is responsible for the tax returns.
