Job Title: Mechanic Specialist
Location: Abuja
Contract: 208 working hours per month.
Main Purpose
- To carry out assessments and ensuring the implementation, maintenance and monitoring of the mechanical works in the projects according to MSF protocols and standards to ensure an optimal running of the vehicles and the mechanical equipment in the projects
Job Description
- Define procedures and ensure the implementation, monitoring, maintenance and correct functioning of the vehicle fleet and other mechanical equipment. Overseeing use and condition of cars, ensuring vehicles and motorcycles are used according to MSF rules and policies.
- Managing the mechanical activities in support to and in close collaboration with fleet managers of the respective projects. Maintaining good communication and feedback with the rest of team, also at project sites, and informing them of all guidelines
- Visiting projects to assess maintenance or repair needs for vehicles, tractors and generators and liaising directly with the staff to identify the project needs and managing response and prioritization of requests. Providing objective reports after field visits and participating in vehicle upgrade propositions
- Ensuring the proper documentation, filing and the compilation of the repairs and maintenance done or required. Signing job cards when releasing a vehicle or equipment.
- Acting as flying expert and referent mechanic of the Workshop team providing technical advice and oversight of quality and helps in strengthening the knowledge of the team, coaching and training mechanics, vehicle maintenance agents and drivers at the field if needed. Participating in the planning and evaluation of technical trainings and staff (all mechanics, vehicle maintenance agents and drivers). Assisting the Workshop Manager in evaluating future needs in recruitment
- Identifying tools, equipment and consumables needed for proper running of the workshop and the projects and giving advice on the purchase of tools. Ensuring that tools are well organized and correctly stored, well protected, fully identified and easily accessible (cleanliness, security access, etc.). Performing physical stock count in accordance with frequency defined by the line manager
- Immediately informing the line manager of any problems arising in the course of work, particularly with regards to damage, loss, attempted break-ins or theft in the workshop as well as interpersonal conflicts occurring at the worksite.
MSF Section / Context Specific Accountabilities
- He/She is the country’s technical reference in the field of his specialty; provides technical advice and identifies needs; manages the response with the prioritization of requests and supervises the quality of garage work activities throughout the mission.
- Helps supervisors and managers to better express their needs for new installations or corrective solutions, with a feasibility study and budget in compliance with technical and logistical policies and MSF protocols. Ensures the follow-up and purpose of equipment, according to its use and age.
- He/She plays an active role in drawing up the fleet budget.
- Monitors the operation and maintenance of the motorized fleet in the country, providing analyses on monitoring
- indicators, fleet renewal, spare parts and consumables with his direct responbale, maintaining the link and validation with the Logco and RTR for the technical part and country strategy.
- In collaboration with the Logco and RTR, implements and applies an international or local fleet procurement strategy, in compliance with current procurement procedures.
- Ensures that technical products in the country are subject to technical validation by Logco and RTR. He/She is responsible for receiving orders for local and international purchases and guarantees the quality and quantities in stock for the country’s needs and project operations, in accordance with technical and logistical policies.
- Ensures the proper management of mecha stocks and monitors fuel consumption on all projects, and ensures that monitoring tools are implemented and used.
- Provides support and technical validation of field orders, ensuring that the order matches the fleet and activities. Ensures that all field orders pass under his technical control before delivery.
- Establishes a schedule of support and routine activities with his supervisor and field logs. Sets objectives for field fleet supervisors and implements monitoring and evaluation resources and tools.
- He/She is responsible for updating the indicators used to monitor activities in his area, (MEMO)
- Responsible for the general inventory of the fleet, spare parts, consumables and tools at least once every 4 months.
- He/She identifies service providers in his field and participates in their validation with the Logco and RTR.
- Participates in the recruitment of personnel in his field and provides technical support. Organizes ongoing training
- for managers, fleet managers and users, on maintenance and upkeep of plant and equipment.
- Ensures the follow-up of administrative documents for the fleet, plans renewals and decommissioning of
- equipment, in accordance with MSF policy and logistics.
- Draws up a monthly report analysing the monitoring of the fleet, addressed to the supervisor and LTLs.
Requirements
Education:
- Essential: University Degree / Polytechnic Diploma from a recognized institution
- Desirable: Mechanical Diploma.
Experience:
Essential:
- Minimum 10 years of experience as a mechanic; familiarity with repair manuals and spare parts catalogues (non-MSF)
- MSF experience will be appreciated.
Languages:
- Essential: Fluency in English
- Desirable: Any local language.

Remuneration
- According to MSF salary scale plus 13th month allowance equivalent to 1 month of gross salary.
