About Us

The MENTOR Initiative is a UK-registered charity and non-governmental organization dedicated to alleviating human suffering from tropical diseases. With support from BHA-PUI, USDA, and UNF, The MENTOR Initiative is implementing an emergency malaria control program in high-risk areas of Borno State. We work closely with Nigeria’s Ministry of Health (MoH) to build technical capacity for effective responses to malaria and other vector-borne diseases (VBDs).

Role Summary

The MENTOR Initiative is seeking a qualified Pharmacy Technician to join our Emergency Response Program, based in Maiduguri, Borno State. The role involves ensuring the effective management of drug supplies and providing improved, lifesaving healthcare services for vulnerable communities. The Pharmacy Technician will play a key role in managing stock, distributing medications during mobile clinics, and supporting medical teams in the field.

Position Title: Pharmacy Technician
Location: Maiduguri/Jere, Nigeria (with field visits to other locations)
Duration: 6 months (renewable based on funding availability)
Start Date: As soon as possible
Reports To: Medical Officer

Key Responsibilities

1. Stock Management

  • Prepare necessary drugs, materials, and equipment for mobile clinics, ensuring all is ready before departure.
  • Conduct daily stock management (in/out) and calculate daily consumption to prevent shortages.
  • Perform weekly physical inventory and prepare weekly drug orders in collaboration with medical staff.

2. Drug Distribution during Mobile Clinics

  • Dispense drugs based on medical prescriptions, verifying dosage and duration if needed.
  • Label dispensing bags with drug details and provide clear instructions to patients on usage and potential side effects.
  • Ensure patient confidentiality and treat all patients with respect and dignity.

3. Data Collection and Analysis

  • Collect daily drug consumption data from mobile clinics and participate in weekly computerization and analysis.

4. Reporting and Team Participation

  • Prepare weekly activity reports for submission to the pharmacist and team leader.
  • Actively participate in internal MENTOR meetings and training sessions.

5. Additional Duties

  • Assist in setting up mobile clinics and loading/unloading equipment.
  • Ensure proper use and maintenance of assigned equipment.
  • Report any security issues to the security focal point promptly.
  • Adhere to MENTOR’s Code of Conduct on ethics, integrity, and safeguarding, including the Whistle Blowing Policy.

Qualifications and Requirements

Education and Experience

  • Qualified Pharmacy Technician or Medical Technician.
  • Experience with primary healthcare, community case management, and malaria/VBD control in Nigeria, preferably in mobile clinic settings.
  • Proficiency in clinical protocols, drug dispensing, transcribing/verifying prescriptions, and stock management.
  • Previous INGO experience is preferred.

Languages

  • Fluency in English and Kanuri required; knowledge of Hausa is an advantage.

Skills

  • Strong organizational, communication, and management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
