Job Title: Lead Researcher (Consultant)

Location: Abuja (FCT) – Nigeria, Bamako – Mali or Niamey – Niger Republic
Employment Type: Contract

Job Summary

  • We are seeking a highly qualified Lead Researcher to coordinate and lead our research activities in Nigeria, Mali, and Niger Republic. This research project aims to explore the complex relationships between climate change, conflict, and development in these regions.
  • The study will investigate how climate change exacerbates conflict and how conflict responses can address climate change, with a particular focus on adaptive strategies and peacebuilding efforts.
  • The research will utilize a comparative case study approach, combining both qualitative and quantitative methods. Engaging with a diverse range of stakeholders, the research findings will inform policy and practice in the regions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate research activities across Nigeria, Mali, and Niger Republic.
  • Conduct literature reviews, data collection, and analysis.
  • Design and implement research methodologies, including qualitative and quantitative approaches.
  • Engage with stakeholders to gather insights and disseminate findings.
  • Contribute to policy and practice recommendations based on research outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Candidates should possess a Ph.D. or MSc in Social Sciences, Development Studies, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in research, with a strong background in climate change, conflict, and peacebuilding.
  • Proven experience in research design, data collection, and analysis. Experience in stakeholder engagement and policy development is highly desirable.
  • Candidates should include a list of relevant publications to which they have contributed, if applicable.
  • Fluency in English, Frennch and Arabic.
