Program Summary:
Project HOPE is providing humanitarian assistance to internally displaced and conflict-affected persons throughout Gaza. The portfolio in Gaza focuses on Health, Mental Health, Protection, and WASH programming in partnership with local NGOs. Our activities include the operation of several primary and sexual reproductive health clinics operated by local Project HOPE staff.
This position will be based in Gaza. Local Nationals Only.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Community Health Practitioner/Health Officer will provide strategic vision and technical support to the identification, design, implementation and management of the country health and mental health programs. In collaboration with Project HOPE’s country team, the CHP/Health Officer will be responsible for supporting the delivery of high-quality health services and technical support to their assigned health facilities (either in Rafah, Khan Younis, or Deir Al Balah) and communities through trainings and community awareness as determined by the Health Technical Lead and Medical Team Lead.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Program Development:
- Support the development of health assessments, design, planning, implementation and monitoring of programs including public health/health services and interventions.
- Provide technical input for new proposals, reports for Project HOPE HQ.
- Further support the development and implement guidelines, protocols and standard setting for health interventions, including roll-out at field level in order to achieve the highest quality of programs intervention.
- Conduct regular field site visits to health facilities and medical points and communities as well as local partners during the preparation of medical outreach activities.
Representation and Reporting:
- Participate in and support the representation of Project HOPE at relevant technical coordination, and meetings with health facilities, as well as sharing meeting notes.
- Participate in networking on technical issues with other health NGOs and UN organizations with a view to identifying and facilitating partnership opportunities.
- Develop technical monthly reports to share within Project HOPE’s country team and with the global technical team.
Other duties as assigned by Medical Team Lead.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum medical degree; preferably with a Master’s in Public Health.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in overseas programs (preferably in emergency response setting or developing country or low-resource setting with an NGO).
- Previous experience with donors such as USAID/BHA, ECHO, DFID, EC, UNHCR, UNICEF, etc.
- Experience in effectively dealing with international and headquarters staff, as well as donor agencies, government officials, and other NGO’s; the ability to work with a broad spectrum of people.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions independently.
- Extremely flexible, and have the ability to cope with stressful situations, frustrations and work with limited resources.
- Proven capabilities in leadership, Strong negotiation, interpersonal and organization skills required.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Teamwork and cooperation and can cope with stressful workload.
- Fluent knowledge of English and of local language (Arabic).
- Essential computer literacy (word, excel and internet).
