Job Summary

The position will support the implementation of a Food Security and Nutrition response, with a focus on Community-based Management of Acute Malnutrition, (CMAM) for a CARE project in Yobe and Jigawa. Under the Supervision of the Program Coordinator, he/she will support the nutrition sector to deliver quality and timely CMAM program. He/she will identify existing gaps and bottlenecks in CMAM Interventions through surveys and assessments and subsequently support the re-design of specific interventions to improve CMAM service delivery. The incumbent will design a comprehensive training plan for all relevant staff at all levels, and lead and supervise its implementation. Similarly, he/she will provide technical guidance and management support throughout the project’s programming process to facilitate the administration and achievement of concrete and sustainable results in accordance with the CMAM national and global guidelines and strategies. The position will support/coordinate the nutrition response/distribution activities in 4 LGAs of Yobe State (Karasuwa & Nguru LGAs) and Jigawa State (Hadejia & Jahun LGAs)

Location: Nguru, Yobe State.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS:

Job Responsibility #1: Support to Project Implementation

  • Oversee the management of CARE Outpatient Therapeutic Feeding Program (OTP), Community Outreach services and provide oversight function to the in-patient therapeutic feeding centres. 
  • Engage in capacity building activities including training and on the job mentorship to team members and key project stakeholders, including Nutrition Assistants and Community Nutrition Mobilizers (CNMs). 
  • Ensure stock management including weekly and monthly physical inventory of all nutrition supplies ensuring stock levels are accounted for and adequate.
  • Manage and track CARE nutrition resources (equipment, supplies) committed to nutrition program activities. 
  • Ensure that nutrition activities are fully integrated into other sectoral interventions and also enhance coordination between sectors. 
  • Ensure timely requisition and distribution of key nutrition commodities such as RUTF and Routine drugs. 
  • Manage all Nutrition staff in OTP and the community nutrition mobilizers in the areas of jurisdiction to ensure that quality standards are met.
  • Support the Program Coordinator to develop work plans, SOP, budgets, program reports, document findings and lessons learned and prepare success stories in specific technical areas. 
  • Represent CARE at all relevant technical external task forces, working groups, seminars, and where possible forge alliances to influence key actors around advocacy objectives. 
  • Liaise with nutrition team to identify technical support needs of projects and staff, and jointly agree on specific and time-bound support needs of projects and staff in relevant technical areas.

Job Responsibility #2: Support to Project Monitoring, Evaluation and Reporting

  • Conduct regular field visits and joint meetings with government officials to monitor and improve the implementation and service delivery of nutrition programs. 
  • Ensure effective management, implementation, monitoring, reporting and evaluation of integrated Nutrition projects.
  • Co-lead nutrition surveys such as SMART survey, assessments, including preparation and submission of survey reports.

QUALIFICATION/EXPERIENCE/TECHNICAL SKILLS:

Required:

  • University degree in any of the following disciplines: Nursing, Biology, Nutrition, Public Health or related field.
  • At least 3 years’ experience in nursing, biology, nutrition, public health, development, or food aid support.
  • A good experience in supervision is required. 
  • Experience with survey methodologies, nutrition assessment and relevant data analysis
