JOB PURPOSE

To supervise the smooth running of SRH activities, including supervision of BEmONC activities, in order to ensure 24/7 efficient, effective and quality care delivering to all patients/clients admitted into INTERSOS SRH program, in collaboration with the Clinic supervisor, Doctors and MOH by respecting and adhering to INTERSOS and MOH SRH protocols & guidelines.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare monthly rosters for midwives and other SRH supporting staff.
  • To supervise and coordinate the work of the midwives involved in the activity with close consultation of her line supervisor.
  • Participates on job trainings of all midwives and SRH related staff
  • Defines the training needs of the midwife and SRH related staff according to project objectives and potential.
  • Assign responsibilities to the staff under her supervision and actively involve in ward rounds, deliveries, ANCs, PNC.
  • Responsible for hygiene and universal precautions in health facilities according to protocols and in cooperation with logistics department and your line manager, Knows and implements accidental exposure policy.
  • Supervises all minor surgical procedures, dressing, sterilization and injection services related to delivery, ANC, PNC patients in the health facilities.
  • Ensures that basic delivery plans are adhered to by the SRH Unit and that prescriptions and protocols are respected.
  • Ensures that all pregnant women and new born children are referred to the Extended Program on Immunization (EPI). Consider making this post primary responsible for all EPI.
  • Supervises daily routine activities in the delivery ward, ANC, PNC and support her team members when there is gap.
  • Ensure capacity building and implements trainings of midwife and maternity staff.
  • Ensures relevant transfer of information from one duty team to another.
  • Ensures that all midwife and maternity staff promotes and maintains confidentiality regarding all patient cases and records.
  • To ensure all the administration procedures and document are used correctly, as well as existed data management tools.
  • To ensure and identify the needs of the logistic in the ANC, PNC, Delivery and report to line manager.
  • Flexibility of roster in night and day if needed
  • Ensure prescriptions and drugs administration according to protocols are respected.
  • Monitors and supervises weekly and monthly consumption of drugs as well as inventories in collaboration with pharmacy supervisor to ensure efficient drug consumption’s and management.
  • Trains and supervises maternity staff regarding the proper use of drugs, needs and consumptions.
  • Supervises and ensures that counselling services are done appropriately following protocols.
  • Works in collaboration with the Information, Education and Communication (IEC) for all IEC activities.
  • Ensure that transmission by HIV or other STIs is avoided with the help of Post Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP) and the use of condoms while trying to respect local traditions.
  • Knows SGBV protocol and ensure that it is implemented.
  • Identifies possible victims of SGBV and refers them for treatment according to protocols.
  • Participates in emergency activity or exploratory visit in or out of the project area if needed.
  • Ensures that recording in individual patient’s card and registration books of all nursing activities are performed correctly.
  • Ensures that all data management tools are used and are updated properly.
  • Ensure that inventories of all material and equipment used exist and are updated.
  • Ensure cleanliness of midwife areas, maternity and delivery rooms.
  • Preparation of weekly data collection as well as monthly data.
  • Participates in the monthly reports according to guidelines (SitReps, medical statistics, etc.) being responsible for this for all SRH activities – collection and analysis of med stats)
  • Informs line manager of any problems that might be linked to work of midwife or maternity staff as well as problematic equipment or material (ex. broken, missing).
  • Participate in meetings with other supervisors in order to ensure smooth collaboration of all departments in terms of activities running.
  • Participate in meetings in health facility with INTERSOS & MOH staff and collaborators.
  • Participates in the monthly reports according to guidelines, i.e. Situation Reports (SitReps), medical statistical reports, etc.
  • Informs other medical managers or doctors about any possible serious problem or complications regarding INTERSOS SRH patients.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Professional Requirements

  • BSc in Nursing from an accredited institution; Post-graduate degree in relevant field will be and additional advantage At least 3 years post qualifying experience in a similar environment; experience in implementation of health and nutrition program will be an additional advantage.
  • Possession of a valid practicing certificates

Personal Requirements

  • Leadership, people management and development, teamwork and cooperation
  • Understanding of humanitarian operations principles, standards and best practices
  • Manages effectively his/her own time as well as flexible and available to work over time when needed
  • Good command of written and spoken English, Kanuri and Hausa Languages
  • Adhere to all INTERSOS policies and procedures both technical and administrational.
  • Undertake and apply learning from appropriate training and development programmes.
  • Maintain and care for all equipment issued by INTERSOS Nigeria and for any losses or damages due to negligence you will be liable for repair or replacement.
