The Alliance for International Medical Action (ALIMA) is an international medical organization, founded in 2009. ALIMA’s aim is to provide a high standard of healthcare in situations of emergency or medical disaster and to improve the practice of humanitarian medicine by developing innovative projects associated with medical research. The specific feature of the association is to base its operating methods mainly on partnership with national medical players. By pooling and capitalizing on their skills, ALIMA and its partners give as many people as possible access to a high standard of treatment. Since its creation, the association and its partners have successfully developed in line with the increase in humanitarian medical needs, especially in Western and Central Africa: 580,000 patients treated in 2014 including over 25,000 hospitalizations, new governance between the partners of the medical NGO platform in the Sahel, new innovative approaches and operational research projects. ALIMA also responded to the Ebola emergency by opening a 40-bed Ebola treatment centre in Guinea. With operations in eight countries, 15 projects, over 1,200 employees and a budget of €19.5 million, ALIMA is a dynamic NGO, effectively deploying medical aid for the most vulnerable.

MISSION AND OBJECTIVES

The research nurse assistant is responsible for the inclusion and the follow-up of the participant in the study in accordance with the protocol, trial procedures and good clinical practice (GCP) in the investigator sites to which they have been assigned.

PROTECTION OF BENEFICIARIES AND COMMUNITY MEMBERS

The incumbent is responsible for the application of HR processes and may be required to conduct field visits. He/she may therefore be in contact with children and/or vulnerable adults. Therefore, a criminal record check or the presentation of a certificate of good conduct will be required. In situations where the impossibility of providing a criminal record or a certificate of good conduct is established, a declaration on honour will be requested.

TASKS & RESPONSABILITIES 

  • Participate in meetings to set up the trial (training on the protocol, procedures and GCP);
  • Participate in the organisation of the study in his/her area of assignment;
  • Identify and enrol eligible criteria (respect of the study’s inclusion and non-inclusion criteria);
  • Obtain and accurately document informed consent for each participant;
  • Respect confidentiality and good clinical practice in relation to clinical trials (anonymity of CRFs, compliance with protocol, etc.
  • Verify accuracy of children anthropometric measure, vital parameters and immunization events reported in source documents and liaise with PHCC and HP health personal if needs of clarifications;
  • Ensure that the tablet and application are working properly and report any problems;
  • Ensure data capture in Redcap offline and synchronize tablet on daily basis;
  • Ensure aggregate data collection as per protocol and SOP requirements;
  • Maintain accurate records of study log and forms;
  • Organize the schedule of follow up visit for all enrolled participants, and work closely with the Community workers to ensure all visit are done;
  • Participate to the site Trial master file update;
  • Ensure organization and storage of research document on site;
  • Participate in data verification requests;
  • Respond to requests for corrections under the responsibility of the clinical trial monitor;
  • Identify, notify and document any adverse/severe adverse event;
  • Prepare and submit daily and weekly report;
  • Prepare and participate in the archiving of data at the end of the trial.

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

  • Candidate’s qualities
  • Registered nurse with 2 years of clinical experience, preferably in the area of paediatric care or malnutrition;
  • Previous experience in humanitarian or NGO context will be an asset;
  • Knowledge and experience in the field of research and/or surveys;
  • Computer skills (data collection software such as Kobo, RedCap, Commcare, at least a good command of Excel)
  • Knowledge and experience in child health
