The Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS) is an international Catholic organisation with a mission to accompany, serve and advocate on behalf of refugees and other forcibly displaced persons. JRS undertakes services at national and regional levels with the support of an international office in Rome. Founded in November 1980 as a work of the Society of Jesus, JRS was officially registered on 19 March 2000 at the Vatican State as a foundation. JRS programmes are found in 51 countries, providing assistance to: refugees in camps and cities, individuals displaced within their own countries, asylum seekers in cities, and to those held in detention centres. The main areas of work are in the field of education, emergency assistance, healthcare, livelihood activities and social services. At the end of 2016, more than 733,400 individuals were direct beneficiaries of JRS projects.

Job Summary:
The Gender Coordinator assumes a leadership role with responsibility for comprehensive planning, implementation, management, and successful execution of a project focused on promoting gender equality, women empowerment, governance, and the protection of vulnerable individuals and communities.. The Gender Coordinator will oversee all project activities, including strategic planning, budget management, stakeholder coordination, and reporting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Project Leadership and Management:
- Provide visionary leadership for the project, ensuring its alignment with the organization’s goals and values.
- Develop, implement, and update project plans, work plans, and budgets in collaboration with project staff and partners.
- Supervise and mentor project team members, fostering a collaborative and productive work environment.
- Strategic Planning and Implementation:
- Develop and execute a comprehensive project strategy that addresses gender equality, women’s rights, and protection concerns.
- Ensure project activities are carried out effectively and meet the project’s objectives and targets.
- Monitor progress and adapt project strategies as needed to achieve results.
- Stakeholder Engagement and Partnerships:
- Establish and maintain effective partnerships with government agencies, NGOs, donors, and other key stakeholders.
- Collaborate with local communities and leaders to ensure their active participation in project activities.
- Advocate for gender equality, protection, and women’s rights at various levels.
- Financial and Resource Management:
- Manage project budgets, financial resources, and expenditures efficiently.
- Ensure compliance with donor regulations and reporting requirements.
- Identify and secure additional funding opportunities to sustain and expand the project’s impact.
- Monitoring, Evaluation, and Reporting:
- Develop and implement a robust monitoring and evaluation framework to track project progress and impact.
- Prepare high-quality project reports and communicate project achievements to stakeholders.
- Ensure accountability and transparency in project activities.
- Risk Management:
- Identify potential project risks and develop mitigation strategies.
- Ensure compliance with safety and security protocols for project staff and beneficiaries.
- Capacity Building:
- Provide training and capacity-building opportunities to project staff and partners.
- Promote a culture of learning and knowledge sharing within the project team.
Qualifications, Competencies and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher degree in Social Sciences, International Development studies, Law, Human rights, Politics, Gender, Peace & Women studies or related field.
- Minimum of 10 years of general work experience in the development or humanitarian sector and 5 years of professional experience as a gender or peace specialist.
- Extensive experience in project management, with a focus on gender-related fields.
- Extensive knowledge of gender concepts, feminist theory, intersectional approaches and international human rights frameworks
- Strong analytical and research skills.
- Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills.
- Strong commitment to gender equality and women empowerment.
- Flexibility and adaptability to changing circumstances and demands and willingness to upskill as required by the tasks to be performed
- Proven ability to work effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders; and independently too
- Strong communication and advocacy skills.
- Experience in fundraising, grant management, and donor relations.
