Furthermore, in 2019, the Centre for International Migration and
Development (CIM), which is run jointly by GIZ and the German Federal
Employment Agency, placed 262 integrated experts and 515 returning

experts with local employers in our partner countries, or provided them
with financial support, advice or other services.*

Skills Development for Youth Employment (SKYE) Programme
The GIZ Programme “Skills for Youth Employment in Nigeria (SKYE)”
supports the diversification of the economy in Nigeria through the
promotion of demand oriented technical and agricultural vocational
training and education (A/VET). Apart from the sectors agriculture and
construction, the project is focusing mainly on the automotive, ICT and
other sectors.
The strategy of the project is to improve the synergy between measures
on the demand side for employment (i.e. skilled persons that followed
vocational qualification measures, formal and informal TVET and
Agricultural-VET (ATVET) measures) with those of the employment
supply side (i.e. promotion of a pro-employment environment in the
private sector through e.g. job centers, job fairs, short-term training and
internship programmes, etc.). The purpose is to develop the matchmaking between the supply and demand of skilled labor force and hence
to contribute to the decrease of youth unemployment in the country.

• Responsibilities:
The Facility Officer will be responsible for monitoring the daily basic
maintenance and services of work facilities to ensure that they meet the
needs of the GIZ-SKYE / SEDIN premises in Abuja and its staff,
operational functions, and provision of services required for the day-today functions of the buildings.
• Tasks
The Facility Officer performs the following tasks:

  1. Maintenance and Facility Support
    • Oversees the day-to-day maintenance of the buildings
    • Reports the need for repairs and carry out general maintenance
    and minor repairs on site such as changing light bulbs, hanging
    pictures, minor carpentry, etc. daily or as required
    • Maintains the generator logbook to enable monitoring of diesel
    consumption
    • Maintains the electricity logbook to enable monitoring of
    electricity consumption
    • Conducts routine inspections of premises, equipment and report
    the need for repairs or additions to office equipment
    • Keeps records of maintenance and repair work done on all
    facilities and equipment to use these records to schedule future
    maintenance practices and detect repeated malfunctions

Ensures that basic facilities, such as generators, water pumps
and power meters, are well-maintained/ operated
• Oversees contractors when professional repairs are necessary to
keep office equipment operational
• Manages the waste and required recycling
• Keeps the lights, especially the security lights, always functional
• Is responsible for regular service of air conditioners and fire
extinguishers
• Cooperates with the gardener in maintaining a tidy environment

  1. Office Support and Logistics
    • Checks office supplies and restocks office materials, e.g.
    ensuring that printers and
    photocopiers are operational by filling with paper, toner
    cartridges etc.
    • Move furniture, equipment, and supplies, using manual handling
    safety measures
    • Responsible for the inventory of equipment for workshop and
    gardening
    • Provide technical assistance for workshops (installation of
    technical equipment such as projectors, screens, pinboards, flip
    chart boards, etc.)
    • Inspects the readiness of the meeting rooms before a meeting,
    workshop or work session
    • Assigns tasks specific tasks within the job description of the
    hospitality officers to ensure better services
    • Ensure external areas are neat and tidy through the supervision
    of the hospitality assistants and the outsourced professional
    cleaning crew
  2. Other tasks
    • Performs other duties and tasks at request of management

C. Required qualifications, competences and experience
• Diploma or similar qualification from a recognized college and/or
university
Professional Experience
• 3 years in a comparable position
Other knowledge, additional competences
• Good knowledge of English, orally and in writing

Manual skills for simple repairs, basic understanding of electric,
plumbing and carpentry work
• Good understanding of sustainability regarding management of
resources and waste
• High level of proficiency and problem solving
• Reliability and good organizational skills, appropriate appearance
and clothing
• Time and self-management skills
• Interpersonal skills and aiming at teamwork
• Ability and willingness meet tight deadlines
• Sensitivity in handling and disposing of documents which may be
important and/ or confidential
• Willingness to learn and improve as required by the tasks to be
performed – corresponding measures are agreed with management
